Unless you are working under an ad-hoc basis you should always be working from a signed release plan.

At the start of each release put together a release plan which is then sent to the client for approval. Arrange an appointment (subject "Debrief: Project Name") for your project manager to come in and do a review in 2 weeks. This doesn't set unrealistic schedules, but puts pressure on the developer to have something done by then.
